A man that was wanted in Pittsylvania County was arrested in Henry County following a high speed chase on Monday. At 10:11 am, Rockingham County Sheriff’s Deputies were notified of a high-speed chase involving a yellow-in-color Toyota Prius heading towards Rockingham County from Caswell County. The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office was in pursuit of the vehicle.

The Prius had been reported stolen from Caswell County, and the pursuit started in Pittsylvania County, when law enforcement officials located and tried to stop the vehicle. The Prius headed back into Caswell County from Virginia, then into and across Rockingham County, and into Henry County, Virginia. During this long pursuit, the Prius frequently reached speeds of between 90 – 100 mph.

A Henry County Sheriff’s deputy was able to stop the vehicle on Stony Mill Road after using a precision immobilization technique. The driver 51-year-old Marcus Prunty was apprehended after a short foot pursuit.

Rockingham County Sheriff’s Deputies have charged Prunty, of Danville, with one count of Felony Flee to Elude and four counts of Second Degree Kidnapping after it was confirmed that four passengers in the vehicle tried to get Prunty to stop the car. He is currently being held in the Henry County Jail, awaiting extradition on these charges.

Prunty has also been charged with eluding and DUI. He also had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant in Pittsylvania County.
