Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative recently received recognition in the 2024 Spotlight on Excellence national awards program, sponsored by the Council of Rural Electric Communicators and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.

MEC received a Silver Award for Best Annual or Impact Report. The theme was “Yesterday’s Reflections. Tomorrow’s Vision.” The purpose of the 2022 annual report was to provide the Board of Directors and MEC’s membership with engaging content documenting the cooperative’s key accomplishments, as well as operating and financial activities throughout that year. The report also included information covering the Cooperative’s 85-year history. MEC Public Relations Specialist Dolores Cabaniss researched, wrote and designed the content for the report, which was included in the June 2023 edition of Cooperative Living.

A special reception honored the award recipients during the Connect ‘24 Conference held in Baltimore, Md. in May.

The Spotlight on Excellence Awards program recognizes electric cooperatives and related organizations’ best communication and marketing efforts. Entrants competed with electric cooperatives of similar size across the nation. Electric cooperative communicators and marketing professionals submitted a record-breaking 805 entries in 20 categories in the 2024 Spotlight on Excellence program. The Spotlight judges’ panel included nearly 50 experienced marketing, web design, and digital communications experts, as well as esteemed faculty for communications departments from several universities.
