Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Henry County on Friday. At 12:07 am, a 2006 Ford F250 was heading east on Spruce Street when the truck crossed over the center line and hit a 2012 Jeep Liberty head on.

The crash caused the F250 to overturn and catch on fire. The Liberty went off the left side of the road about a quarter mile west of the Spruce Street intersection with Old Liberty Drive.

40-year-old Michael Poynter of Martinsville was driving the Jeep Liberty and died at the scene. 25-year-old Benjamin Dodson of Axton was driving the F250 and was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

According to VSP, the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
