One woman has died from her injuries after three people were shot and injured in Pittsylvania County on Saturday. According to the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, 82-year-old Margie Watkins, of Axton, died from her injuries on Monday morning.

One victim has been released from the hospital and one remains in the ICU at this time.

The shooting occurred on Saturday. At 2:41 pm, the Pittsylvania County 911 center received a report that several subjects had been shot at 2838 Sandy River Rd in Axton.

Upon arrival deputies discovered 3 adults had gunshot wounds and those victims were triaged at the scene and flown to area hospitals for treatment. The suspect Telvin Hairston, 31, of Martinsville, was apprehended by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office a short time later in Henry County without incident.

The case is still being investigated. Hairston has been charged with three counts of malicious wounding, three counts use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, One count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felony, and one count of  armed burglary.

He is currently being held under no bond. According to the sheriff’s office, there was speculation that a protective order or restraining order had been obtained against Hairston but there is no record of the order.

According to WSET, warrants say that Hairston broke in the door at the residence and admitted to shooting the three women and said he did it because they wouldn’t give him his children.

Hairston was previously arrested in 2016 for an attempted murder in Martinsville. He was arrested on six charges including attempted first-degree murder. Hairston received a ten year sentence with eight suspended.

Hairston’s trial date is currently scheduled for September 17.
