(Danville, VA) – Coming on the heels of an announcement by Virginia Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine that Virginia would be receive nearly $2 million dollars in funding for Public Health AmeriCorps programs last week, the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research has allocated their portion of the grant to expanding membership in the Regional Engagement to Advance Community Health (REACH) AmeriCorps program.
This expansion will allow for recruitment of 15 part time REACH Community Health Educators who will host community health workshops over a 9 month period. These workshops will focus on specified health topics with a particular focus on high need and chronic health issues in targeted census tracts across the Dan River Region.
Recruitment efforts are underway and members who participate will be receiving a stipend of $11,500 and a Segal Education award which is to be used for repayment of student loans or could be put towards future education goals in the amount of $3,447.50. Interested parties can submit resumes by email or apply online.
