Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Saturday morning in Halifax County. At 9:55 am, A 1989 Chevrolet Silverado was heading southbound on Route 501 when it was rear-ended by a 2007 Ford Explorer, also heading southbound. The Silverado then ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.
The driver of the Silverado, Robert Hermanowski, 78, of Nathalie, Va., was transported to an area hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Explorer, Brandon L.S. Rogers, 30, of Nathalie, Va., was not injured in the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt. Rogers has been charged with driving too fast for highway conditions.
The crash remains under investigation.
