The National Weather Service in Blacksburg  has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Halifax County on Wednesday night and was an EF-1. The discovery was made by a National Weather Service survey team that was sent to the area to assess the damage.

Winds from the storm reached around 100 MPH. The tornado was on the ground for just over 9 miles and initially touched down near the intersection of Ridgeway Road and Chatham Road.

A tornado warning was issued at 6:13 pm on Wednesday and expired at 6:45 pm. The storm knocked down several trees and impacted several roads.
