A missing Halifax County teen was located safely on Saturday. 13-year-old Mackenzie Paige Shelton was reported missing on Wednesday morning and was located safely in Missouri.

Following the report of Shelton being missing a K-9 unit established a track from the residence to Cherry Hill Church in Cluster Springs, Virginia. It was believed she may have obtained a ride at this location. 

Shelton’s cell phone and watch were located at the scene. Investigating officers spoke to several individuals acquainted with Shelton, who had reason to believe she may be traveling out of state, possibly to Missouri or Minnesota.

Shelton is being held in protective custody.
