A second suspect has been arrested in an aggravated assault case from 2022. On July 24, the Danville Police Department arrested Jaiden Daniel Franklin, 23, for his involvement in an aggravated assault from August 2022.

On August 15, 2022, at approximately, 5:15 pm, officers responded to the 100 block of North Avenue for reports of gunfire. The investigation found that a gold SUV drove past a group of individuals in the 100 block of North Ave and those inside the SUV opened fire as they drove by. A male individual in the group fired back at the SUV as it fled the scene on North Avenue.

At 7:08 pm the same evening, officers responded to the 2100 block of Riverside Drive for shots fired. Investigators determined the same SUV as the North Ave. incident was involved in the shooting on Riverside Drive.

Franklin has been charged with two counts of felonious assault, two counts of shooting from a vehicles, two counts of use or display of a firearm in commission of a felony, and one count of attempt to commit a noncapital offense.

A second suspect, Xzavion Smith, was subsequently arrested on August 16, 2022 for attempted malicious wounding, shooting at an occupied vehicle, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

A 2022 GMC Terrain was mentioned as being used in a 2022 press release. That vehicle was later recovered in Pittsylvania County after being found burned.
