God’s Storehouse has received a grant of $3,000 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help nourish neighbors experiencing hunger. The Feeding the Hungry grant supports
community feeding partners by helping neighbors increase their access to nutritious food and providing nutrition education to eliminate health risks for those experiencing food insecurity.
“We are steadily seeing an increase in the number of people in need of our services and a decline in the number of donations coming in. Unfortunately, in the summer months, our donations tend to drop even more,” said Karen Harris, executive director of God’s Storehouse. “With reductions in SNAP benefits, the increase in food costs, and increases in customers, we must buy food to keep up with the demand. We are so fortunate to have received this grant from the Food Lions Feeds Charitable Foundation and so blessed by the ongoing partnership with the six local Food Lion Grocery Stores. These funds will help ensure we can continue to stock our shelves to serve the 170+ customers we serve each day.”
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $18.9 million in grants.
