Wednesday is the first day of school for Danville City Schools. Earlier this week members of Danville City Council visited multiple schools as they prepared for the first day.

During last night’s city council meeting Mayor Alonzo Jones discussed the visits.

“Myself along with school board members, city council members, police, fire, and many members of our community we did a gratitude tour and we wanted to thank all of the staff, faculty, parents, and students for all of the work that they’ve done in DPS,” said Jones.

Jones and the rest of city council also made a strong statement against bullying.

“We will not, we will not tolerate any bullying of any kind, none,” said Jones, “I repeat we will not tolerate any bullying of any kind.”

Danville schools will have a new cell phone policy this year for middle and high school students. Students will have to keep their phones bagged up during school hours.

Students will be required to use Yonder bags to store their phones during the day. The phones will remain locked in the pouch for the entire school day and will be opened after school hours. School staff will also be expected to stay off of their cell phones during school hours.
