One person has been arrested following a shooting incident in Danville on Thursday. The Danville Police Department responded to the call at 5:15 pm in the 200 block of North Main Street.
25-year-old Marvin James Saunders Jr. has been charged with attempted malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, discharging a firearm in a public place, reckless handling of a firearm, and brandishing a firearm. Saunders had an altercation with a 39-year-old male and then fired a shot at him. There were no injuries.
Saunders fled the scene following the shooting and was spotted by two officers on North Main Street driving a white Dodge pickup truck.
While accelerating to catch up to the suspect, and with emergency equipment including lights activated, one of the officers was involved in a traffic crash at the intersection of W. Thomas St. and N. Main St. The driver and passenger in the other involved vehicle were transported from the scene with non-life threatening injuries.
The officer was uninjured. The crash remains under investigation.
A traffic stop was conducted with the shooting suspect vehicle shortly after the traffic crash. Saunders was arrested during the traffic stop, and a firearm was also seized.
He is being held in the Danville City Jail under no bond. The shooting incident also remains under investigation.
