On Thursday morning, the Danville Riverview Rotary Club in partnership with Danville Parks and Recreation held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new mural on the Riverwalk Trail. The new mural is 150-foot and is a visual representation of the Children’s book “The Dan River Twins”, a book that was written by Danville Parks and Recreation.
The artist of the mural, Carla Garrison-Mattos, worked on the project for two weeks. Garrison-Mattos has been a professional artist for 15 years and a mural artist for nine years.
“I’ve painted over 100 murals in my career and this is definitely one of my favorites,” said Garrison-Mattos, “not only because the wall is 150-feet long and is currently my record, but also because the community here has been so welcoming and amazing. The Rotary Club is above and beyond and I just love all of you guys so much, I’ve never been so welcomed by anyone and I’m really just incredibly grateful to be back here.”
The inspiration for the mural is the two main characters in “The Dan River Twins” book, Danny and Mist, who race in the Dan River in the book.
