A potential threat made online to Martinsville City Public Schools and Henry County Schools on Thursday has been deemed not credible. During a press conference on Thursday, Captain Sandy Hines with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and Martinsville Police Chief Rob Fincher said the post on social media originated over a year ago outside of the area and didn’t mention any Martinsville or Henry County schools.

Martinsville City Public Schools posted the following message on social media this morning:

The safety of our students and staff is one of our top priorities at Martinsville City Schools. To that end, we want to make you aware that, this morning we learned of a potential threat made online that appeared to include Martinsville Middle School. School safety and local law enforcement officials were immediately alerted and all schools and students are safe at this time. We want to remind our families that we have multiple layers of security in place at each of our schools to protect our students and staff in the event of an emergency. We will provide more information to our staff and families through our district all-call system if necessary.”
