Two people were arrested and a deputy was injured following a chase in Henry County on Saturday. At around 2 pm on Saturday, a Henry County Sheriff’s Deputy noticed a white Buick that had been reported to be involved in a larceny.
As the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver increased speed and began driving in a reckless manner. The chase continued onto Greensboro Road, then Main Street and to Highway 87 heading toward North Carolina.
A deputy then performed a PIT maneuver and caused the Buick to lose control and hit an embankment. As the deputy approached the vehicle on foot the driver of the Buick rolled the vehicle forward and pinned the deputy’s leg against the patrol vehicle.
The suspect then ran away on foot and was lost by deputies. Two other people were found inside the Buick.
Ronald Haizlip, of Eden, had a warrant for his arrest in Eden and was taken into custody. A woman in the car was released.
35-year-old Carlton Haizlip was determined to be the suspect that escaped. According to deputies, he stole a 2006 Saturn from a home in Ridgeway.
Haizlip was later apprehended in Myrtle Beach and the stolen vehicle was recovered. The deputy that was pinned by the car was treated and released from the hospital.
Haizlip has been charged with felony eluding police, assault of a law enforcement officer, and larceny of a motor vehicle.
