Former State Senator Frank Ruff died over the weekend at 75 after a battle with cancer. Ruff was originally from Mecklenburg County and served in the General Assembly for 30 years. 

Ruff served in the House of Delegates from 1994 to 2000 for the 61st District and then served in the State Senate from 2000 to 2024 for the 15th District, which includes parts of Danville, Pittsylvania County and Halifax County.

Ruff resigned from the senate in January due to his cancer treatments. Governor Glenn Youngkin issued a statement on Ruff’s passing calling him a “legend of public service.”
