A Reidsville man was arrested in Eden after assaulting a law enforcement officer. On Sunday, officers with the Eden Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a 2004 Buick Lesabre operated by Jerry Mitchell on Stadium Drive just East of Edgewood Road. During the stop Mitchell became resistant and would not follow the commands of the officers.
Mitchell then assaulted an officer by pulling off and dragging the officer down the road, which resulted in the officer sustaining an injury. Mitchell continued East on Stadium Drive causing an immediate threat to the motoring public, and failed to stop for blue lights and sirens. An officer then conducted a Precision Immobilization Technique.
The suspect vehicle came to rest off the North side of Stadium Drive. Mitchell was then placed into custody and transported to the Eden Police Department for processing.
The Eden officer was treated at a local hospital and released. Mitchell sustained no injuries and is being held under no bond.
Mitchell has been charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, felony assault on a law enforcement officer, and felony resisting, or delaying a law enforcement officer causing serious bodily injury. Mitchell was also charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, two misdemeanor counts of reckless driving, and misdemeanor assault on a government official.
