East Point Energy has requested the withdrawal of its East Point Battery Storage siting agreement and its Special Use Permit application currently advertised to be heard at the Pittsylvania County Planning Commission meeting on December 3, 2024.
As a result, there will be no public hearing on the siting agreement at the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors (Board) business meeting on November 19, 2024, or the Planning Commission meeting on December 3, 2024.
East Point decided to not move forward with the project due to the costs to connect to the power grid.
East Point still plans to send a fire safety expert to the Fire and Rescue Commission meeting on November 21, 2024, to ensure that the volunteer fire departments receive the necessary information to evaluate battery energy storage projects in the future, according to the letter.
The proposed battery storage facility would have been built on approximately 20 acres of a 193.04-acre parcel, located off State Road 646/Spring Road in the Staunton River Election District. The proposed project was for a 60-megawatt battery energy storage system connecting to the Dominion Power grid through an interconnection to an existing 69kV transmission line.
