The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man wanted on numerous charges following a high-speed pursuit. On Thursday, at 7:35 pm, a deputy attempted to conduct a vehicle stop of a motorcycle traveling south on N.C. 14 near Fisher Hill Rd. after witnessing a traffic violation by the motorcycle that almost caused a collision with another car.
After activating his patrol vehicle’s emergency blue lights and siren, the motorcycle fled at a high rate of speed, attempting to elude the deputy. The pursuit went into Virginia on Morgan Ford Rd.
The motorcycle exited the roadway at 4354 Morgan Ford Rd. and continued into a wooded area behind a home. The motorcycle was located on its side approximately 50 yards into the woods at that location. The rider had fled on foot.
With the assistance of Virginia authorities, a manhunt of the area was conducted. The operator, discovered to be Cody Warren Purdy, was not located.
Purdy, 34, is wanted on a number of outstanding warrants.
