The mission of Virginia-based non-profit, God’s Pit Crew, is to deliver hope, healing, and restoration to hurting people in times of disaster.  The ministry continues those efforts in areas tragically affected by Hurricane Helene.  Over 60 loads of relief supplies have been trucked into devastated communities, volunteer crews have spent weeks helping residents clean up storm damage, and now the ministry’s Rebuild Team is stepping into action to begin rebuilding homes in multiple states.

Beginning December 1, God’s Pit Crew volunteers will be onsite in Newport, Tennessee, to begin building a new home for Janet Sams.  After Hurricane Helene caused the Little Pigeon River to rise to unprecedented levels over two months ago, Janet was left with a pile of debris in place of her once-scenic home due to rushing waters that tore across her property.

Those close to Janet say she is a pillar in her community, always giving back to others in need and helping wherever she can.  Beginning next week, the ministry’s Rebuild Team will be working to build and fully furnish Janet’s new home in an effort to help her get back on track and continue pouring into others.

The Tennessee home is one of several rebuild projects God’s Pit Crew has announced in the wake of Hurricane Helene.  At the 2024 Volunteer Banquet, the ministry surprised three other families from North Carolina and Virginia with the news that the organization would soon be rebuilding their homes that were tragically lost during the storm.  The rebuild efforts come alongside the ministry’s aid to facilitate eight campers to families displaced from their homes, as well.

God’s Pit Crew President Randy Johnson says that the ministry is grateful for everyone who makes projects like this possible through the outpouring of generosity and support.

“Even though weeks have passed since Helene unleashed devastation across so many areas, the need for help remains crucial for many people.  We consider it a true blessing to be able to serve and help others in times of great need,” stated Johnson.  “Our ministry wouldn’t be able to provide hope to countless lives if it weren’t for the encouragement and support that is so graciously shown to our crew.”

As relief efforts continue for areas working to recover, all updates and announcements will be shared at GodsPitCrew.org where volunteer and donation opportunities can be found, as well.
