A local firefighter lost his home and pets in a house fire on Sunday. According to Gretna Fire and Rescue, Bill VanGils was on duty on Sunday when the call went out that a fire had broken out at his home on Armstrong Rd. in Penhook.

VanGils not only lost his house and possessions, but he lost his pets in the fire as well. His dog Jayne was also the firehouse dog at Gretna Fire and Rescue.

A GoFundMe has been set up to accept monetary donations for VanGils. Donations will also be accepted at the station at 122 E. Gretna Rd.
