Virginia State Police is investigating a vehicle versus pedestrian crash, which resulted in a fatality.  The crash occurred Saturday, (Dec 7) at 9:35 pm on Route 719, two tenths of a mile south of Route 1004 in Pittsylvania County.

A 2001 Ford Expedition was traveling north on Route 719, when the vehicle struck a pedestrian which was walking in the roadway.

The pedestrian was identified as 33-year-old Maurice Antwon Briggs, of Chatham. Briggs was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he died on Sunday.

The driver of the Ford was not injured. No charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
