An Eden man was arrested on Saturday after a welfare check on a juvenile. On Saturday,  Officers with the Eden Police Department responded to 1315 Harris Street in Eden to check the welfare of a 12-year-old juvenile at the residence.

Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the parties involved, and also notified Rockingham County Child Protective Services. A short time later a second call came in and the caller reported that there was a disturbance involving a firearm.

Officers arrived on scene and attempted to speak with the father of the juvenile, David Jeffrey Hutcherson, who was subsequently arrested for resist, delay and obstruct. On Wednesday, investigators with the Eden Police Department consulted with North Carolina Child Protective Services, at which point additional charges were taken out for Hutcherson.

After a thorough investigation and consulting with the Rockingham County District Attorney’s Office, 60-year-old David Hutcherson was charged with assault by pointing a gun and child abuse. Hutcherson is being held under no bond and is scheduled to appear in Wentworth District Court on February 13.
