Seven people were injured during a vehicle pursuit in Roxboro, NC on Thursday. According to the Roxboro Police Department, 18-year-old Jamere Jones allegedly stole a 1999 Buick from a business on Leasburg Rd. at around 4 pm.
Officers then located the vehicle within minutes in a business parking lot, however Jones was able to evade police and a chase ensued. During the pursuit speeds reached over 60 mph in a 20 mph zone.
Jones then ran a red light at the intersection of South Main St. and Madison Blvd. and was hit by a truck and two other vehicles. The crash caused Jones and two 16-year-old passengers to be entrapped in the vehicle.
Emergency crews used the Jaws of Life to extricate one of the 16-year-old passengers. One of the 16-year-old passengers was transported by Life Flight to the hospital and is in critical condition with life threatening injuries.
Jones was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and is in stable condition. Five other people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Jones has been charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle and felony speeding to elude arrest. Additional charges are expected.
