God’s Pit Crew will start the new year by giving a Tennessee woman a new home. Volunteer crews have labored consistently in East Tennessee – currently in the small town of Newport – to build a new home for a woman who lost everything to the Little Pigeon River when it swiftly rose during the storm.
Janet Sams, a longtime resident of Newport, Tennessee, tragically lost her home and all her belongings when the storm struck. With floodwaters rising and winds howling, the house she once called home was reduced to rubble. Despite the overwhelming loss, Janet remained steadfast in her faith and determination to rebuild her life, knowing that help was on the way.
Since Hurricane Helene’s devastating impact, God’s Pit Crew has been at the forefront of recovery efforts, providing immediate relief and long-term recovery support to those affected. The ministry’s team of volunteers, equipped with construction expertise, worked tirelessly to clear debris, provide critical supplies to storm survivors, and now is working to rebuild homes for multiple families in numerous states.
“We are so blessed to be part of Janet’s journey,” remarked Randy Johnson, God’s Pit Crew President and Founder. “Our mission is to act as the hands and feet of Jesus in times of disaster. When people lose everything, it’s important for them to know they are not alone. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors and volunteers, we are able to restore more than just homes – we’re restoring hope.”
Johnson says that the ministry is grateful for everyone who makes projects like this possible through the outpouring of generosity and support.
“Our ministry wouldn’t be able to provide hope for these devastated families if it weren’t for the care and support that is so graciously shown to our group,” said Johnson. “Homes like Janet’s wouldn’t be possible if not for our amazing volunteers, donors, and supporters.”
Along with building this home, God’s Pit Crew’s Immediate Disaster Response Team has served over 95,000 cumulative volunteer hours following Hurricane Helene helping with relief and restoration efforts throughout Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
The new home will be unveiled on Saturday at 10 am.
