A man has been sentenced for a Gretna murder that occurred in 2022. Daniel Wayne Neal was previously found guilty on all charges, murder in the first degree, statutory burglary and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Neal was found guilty for the murder of Charles Van Hooker on February 11, 2022 at 1328 Boxwood Road in Gretna. A mistrial was previously declared in July 2023 after one of the witnesses said that he had spoken with another witness inside of one of the witness rooms.

Neal has been sentenced to life in prison and an additional 23 years.
