The Danville Life Saving Crew lost a longtime member over the weekend. Clayton Lester passed away on Saturday at 89 after serving on the Danville Life Saving Crew for 63 years.
The crew hall is named after Lester for the longtime impact he had saving lives in the community. During his time he served as both a captain and business manager.
In a post on Facebook the Danville Life Saving Crew said, “Clayton’s impact on the Danville Life Saving Crew is immeasurable, and his legacy lives on not only in the countless lives he touched but also in our Clayton T. Lester Crew Hall, which proudly bears his name. This lasting tribute reflects his unwavering dedication and the profound influence he had on our organization.”
Lester also served as the President of the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads during his tenure. The funeral will be held on Friday at 2 pm at Woodlawn Baptist Church.
