No foul play is suspected in the death of an inmate that occurred on Wednesday at the Danville City Jail. According to the Danville Sheriff’s Office, at 6:40 am, deputies were serving breakfast to inmates and one inmate did not come out of his cell for breakfast.
Deputies responded to the inmate’s cell and found him alone and unresponsive in his secure cell. CPR was initiated and administered by deputies until the Danville Life Saving Crew and Danville Fire Department arrived.
He was then transported to the hospital. The inmate, Christopher McLaughlin, was pronounced dead at 7:31 am at SOVAH Danville.
McLaughlin had existing health conditions and his next of kin have been notified. There were no obvious signs of foul play or self-harm.
The Danville Police Department and the Department of Corrections were notified according to Sheriff’s Office policy and Virginia State Code.
