A Virginia man has been charged for trying to escape from the Rockingham County Detention Facility. 55-year-old Bobby Dobbins, of Rocky Mount, was charged with possessing tools for escape from a jail and attempting to escape from a county confinement facility.

On January 15, Dobbins used an assistive handrail he managed to dislodge from his cell wall near the toilet and attempted to break through the concrete wall to escape through the piping chase. Dobbins’ attempt to breech the wall of his cell was unsuccessful.

Dobbins was in the Rockingham County Detention Facility on a charge of robbery with a dangerous weapon. He is currently being held at a detention facility in Virginia on unrelated charges and will be extradited back to Rockingham County.
