A father and stepmother were arrested after a child was found dead in Franklin County on Saturday. According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at 6 pm on Saturday to a call regarding an unconscious and unresponsive child.
Emergency responders arrived at a residence located in the 100 block of Circle View Street in Rocky Mount, where they discovered an 8-year-old child who was pronounced deceased at the scene. Following a thorough investigation, both the father and stepmother of the child were arrested.
𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐄𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧, 46, of Rocky Mount, has been charged with one felony count of Child Abuse and Neglect, resulting in Serious Injury. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧, 32, also of Rocky Mount, has been charged with one felony count of Child Abuse and Neglect, resulting in Serious Injury, along with one misdemeanor count of Simple Assault Against a Family Member. Both suspects are currently being held without bond.
The deceased child’s body has been transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke for an autopsy. This investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
