The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors upcoming meeting on Tuesday has been moved to a bigger location. The meeting will now be held at Chatham High School at 100 Cavalier Drive due to the anticipated turnout for the meeting.
The Board of Supervisors are scheduled to vote on a proposal from Balico LLC for a data center campus in the chalk level community. Balico, LLC is requesting 763.16 acres be rezoned from R-1, Residential Suburban Subdivision and A-1, Agricultural District to M-2, Industrial District Heavy Industry in the Banister Election District.
The parcels would be home to a total 12 data centers, grouped in two clusters of six, as well as turbines that will initially generate 300 or more megawatts of gas-fired power to support the centers.
The company said the investment would represent millions of dollars in annual tax revenue for the county as well as nearly 400 jobs. Dozens of citizens in Pittsylvania County spoke against the proposed project at previous meetings.
The Pittsylvania County Planning Commission previously recommended denial of Balico LLC’s proposal in January. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 15 and will also be live streamed on the Pittsylvania County Facebook page.
