On Tuesday, the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors voted to deny a withdrawal request from a company wanting to build a data center campus in Chalk Level. Balico LLC had requested to withdraw its proposal for a data center campus in the Banister Election district to look at other options for the property, however the Board of Supervisors voted 5-2 to deny the request.

The Board then voted 6-1 against the rezoning request for the proposed data center campus. The vote means the property will not be eligible for rezoning for a year.

Balico LLC was wanting to build a data center campus on nearly 750 acres. The proposal called for 12 data centers grouped in two clusters of six, as well as turbines that will initially generate 300 or more megawatts of gas-fired power to support the centers.

The company had previously said the investment would represent millions of dollars in annual tax revenue for the county as well as nearly 400 jobs.
