With all precincts reporting, John McGuire holds about a 300 vote lead over incumbent Bob Good in the Republican 5th Congressional District Primary race. Early votes still have to be counted before the winner is declared.

McGuire won in both Danville and Pittsylvania County. The winner will face Gloria Witt who won the Democratic nomination with 57% of the vote beating Gary Terry and Paul Riley. Witt was the winner in both Danville and Pittsylvania County.

Hung Cao easily won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate as he beat four other candidates with nearly 62% of the vote. Cao will face incumbent Ted Kaine in the November election.
