A first-degree murder charge has been added for a man that shot and injured three women in Pittsylvania County on Saturday. One of the women, 82-year-old Margie Watkins, died from her injuries on Monday.

31-year-old Telvin Hairston, of Martinsville, has now been charged with first degree murder. Hairston was previously charged with three counts of malicious wounding, three counts use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, One count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felony, and one count of  armed burglary.

One victim has been released from the hospital and one remains in the ICU at this time.

The shooting occurred on Saturday. At 2:41 pm, the Pittsylvania County 911 center received a report that several subjects had been shot at 2838 Sandy River Rd in Axton.

Upon arrival deputies discovered 3 adults had gunshot wounds and those victims were triaged at the scene and flown to area hospitals for treatment. Hairston was apprehended by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office a short time later in Henry County without incident.

The case is still being investigated. He is currently being held under no bond. Hairston’s trial date is currently scheduled for September 17.
