Pittsylvania County is offering a second opportunity for property owners to go before the Board of Equalization concerning complaints about possible inequalities in property values and errors in acreage resulting from the 2024 reassessment.

The Board is composed of six Pittsylvania County residents appointed by the Circuit Court, and they are David Norman, Pamela Holley, Aubrey Rosser, Phillip Adams, Glenn Dillion and Donna Gibson. The Board recently concluded its first round of hearings in July.

The Board will hear written or oral complaints and will either increase, decrease or affirm the assessment.

Before a change can be made, the taxpayer, or his/her agent must prove the property’s current assessment/value is not uniform with similar properties; the property is not accurately represented in the County’s real estate database, such as clerical errors; and/or the property is assessment in a manner inconsistent with the 2023 market value.

Hearings begin October 29 and conclude November 12, 2024. The deadline to make an appointment is no later than Tuesday, August 13. All hearings require an appointment and those who fail to make an appointment will not be heard, according to the Code of Virginia. No appointments will be made after August 13.

To make an appointment, call 434-432-7726 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointment requests can also be made by email at boe@pittgov.org.

Appointments are scheduled every 30 minutes with an additional 10 minutes for each additional property owned and being disputed.

When making an appointment, have your parcel ID number for all parcels to be considered. Hearings will be held at the Community Center, 115 S. Main Street in Chatham.
