The City of Danville is seeking proposals from engineering firms who wish to be considered to provide professional engineering services that support the development of the White Mill Pedestrian Bridge.
This project involves the repair, restoration, and adaptive reuse of the historic Dan River Fabrics bridge across the Dan River, with the primary objective of having the bridge become a functioning component of the Danville Parks and Recreation Trail System.
The Dan River Falls Pedestrian Bridge was originally constructed in 1921 as a connection between Mill buildings on the north and south banks of the Dan River.
The design narrative for the new bridge includes three main parts: restoration and adaptive use of the historic bridge, a new connecting bridge spanning between the south end of the existing bridge and mill 8, and new access ramps for the north and south bank.
The analysis and conceptual report includes educational balconies, seating balconies and a zip line site. A preliminary price estimate for the new White Mill Pedestrian Bridge suggests it would cost just over $16 million for the bridge restoration, new elements, and upgrades.
Bids can be submitted to the City of Danville until September 10th. A pre-bid meeting has been scheduled for August 29th.
