The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a potential carpet cleaning scam. The sheriff’s office has received several complaints of persons going door to door claiming to be with Kirby Vacuum Services.

These individuals will ask to come into your home to vacuum/shampoo your carpets for free. These individuals are not with the Kirby Vacuum company and have not obtained the proper certificates to conduct such activity in Pittsylvania County.

In one incident on Green Pond Road in the Rhondo community, a white male wearing jeans and t-shirt was observed knocking on doors leaving pamphlets. The male was operating a dark colored Cadillac Escalade that appeared to have been lowered.

In a separate incident on Grassland Drive in the Sandy Level community a white female in a gray colored Toyota truck with a camper shell was observed going door to door asking to shampoo carpets.

If these individuals come to your home it is suggested that you turn them away and advise them you are contacting law enforcement.  If possible, please try to obtain a description of the individuals, a description of the vehicle along with a tag number, but only if you can do so safely.  Please contact the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office by calling 434-432-7931 or in case of an emergency dial 911.
