The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office has announced the start of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program (D.A.R.E) for Halifax County Public Schools.

The 2024 D.A.R.E. instructor class participated in two weeks of rigorous training, completing a semester and a half’s worth of learning in just 80 plus hours of coursework and practical instruction to become a certified D.A.R.E. Officer. Their commitment, dedication and perseverance throughout this intensive program have prepared them to educate and empower youth in making safe and responsible decisions.

Deputy Mays, a seasoned instructor, successfully completed a one-week recertification course, further enhancing his skills and reaffirming his dedication to the program. His ongoing commitment to the D.A.R.E. initiative continues to play a vital role in fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and the community.

The program will be starting in Halifax County elementary schools beginning in September.
