Two people were arrested following a chase that began in Rockingham County and ended in Guilford County on Sunday. At around 2:41 am, Rockingham County Sheriff’s Deputy S. Z. Harris observed a 2017 White in color Honda Ridgeline traveling north on U.S. 158 East near Yanceyville Volunteer Fire Department with no tail-lights illuminated on the vehicle.

A deputy attempted a vehicle stop, at which time the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. Harris pursued the vehicle, which at times reached speeds of over 100 mph. The suspect vehicle fled to Highway US29, exited at Barnes St., and then stopped at Barnes St. near Diesel Dr. in Reidsville.

The deputy exited his patrol vehicle to confront the suspect vehicle’s driver, the vehicle again fled, and the pursuit continued. The suspect vehicle traveled back to Highway US29 northbound, exited at NC14, and then returned to Highway US29 southbound towards Greensboro.

Guilford County Sheriff’s Office and Greensboro Police Department were notified as the pursuit entered Guilford County on Highway US29 southbound. The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office continued their pursuit into Guilford County.

The suspect attempted to cross into the opposite lane of Interstate 840 and collided with several rocks in the median, forcing the vehicle to a stop. The suspect driver then fled the truck on foot. A deputy gave chase on foot and apprehended the suspect. A female and minor child were found to be passengers in the Honda Ridgeline.

The 2017 Honda Ridgeline was registered to a man in High Point. The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office requested High Point Police to go by and speak with the vehicle’s owner about the incident. When they attempted to make contact with him, High Point Police discovered the registered owner deceased at his home. High Point Police are investigating the death.

38-year-old Daniel Ryan Marinelli-Vasquez, of Greensboro, was arrested and charged with felony flee to elude, misdemeanor child abuse, and assault on a government official. He was placed in the Rockingham County Detention Facility under a $1,000,000 bond.

34-year-old Alexandria Hope Hughes, of McLeansville, NC, was arrested on outstanding warrants and was charged with misdemeanor child abuse as well. She was placed in the Rockingham County Detention Facility under a $5,000 secured bond.

The minor passenger of the vehicle was uninjured and was turned over to a family member following these arrests.
