An Axton man was killed during a crash in Henry County on Tuesday. According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred at 10:53 pm on Route 57, at the intersection of Route 1649 in Henry County.

A 1998 Land Rover was traveling east on Route 57, when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned ejecting the driver.

The driver was identified as 66-year-old Ray D. Smith, of Axton. Smith was not wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
