Two people wanted in Henry County were arrested on Wednesday after barricading themselves inside of a home. Deputies responded to 394 Woodhaven Rd. in Martinsville in an attempt to arrest a wanted person.
While on scene, it was determined that Samuel Dewey Franklin Jr., 37, of the same address was barricaded inside of the residence and refused to comply with commands to exit. During the course of negotiations, it was determined that a second wanted person, 44-year-old April Michelle Cannoy, was also inside of the home.
The Crisis Negotiations Team was able to establish communication with Cannoy that resulted in her peacefully exiting the residence and being taken into custody without incident. However, Franklin remained inside of the residence and refused to exit.
After prolonged negotiations, the SWAT team deployed chemical munitions into the residence that forced Franklin to exit. He was then taken into custody.
Franklin has been charged with one felony count of failure to appear, two misdemeanor counts of failure to appear, and misdemeanor obstruction of justice. Cannoy has been charged with a felony probation violation.
Both are being held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
