Balico’s rezoning application requests that more than 760 acres be rezoned to M-2, Industrial. The parcels would be home to a total 12 data centers, grouped in two clusters of six, as well as turbines that will initially generate 300 or more megawatts of gas-fired power to support the centers.

“As Microsoft’s data center projects in Mecklenburg County demonstrate, this proposal offers tremendous benefits to all corners of Pittsylvania County. It will generate millions of dollars annually for education, public safety, and recreation throughout the County, all without relying on property owners to foot the bill. The project will also create more than 300 good-paying jobs in a high-tech industry that will remain in the community long after construction has finished and demonstrate that Pittsylvania County is open for business and investment,” said Balico, LLC, Director Jeff Brasfield in a statement.

Balico previously withdrew a proposal to build called for the project to be built on over 2,200 acres in the Chalk Level community. The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors notified the company that they wouldn’t support the project after backlash from the community.
