A Danville man has been sentenced after he was shot for pointing a gun at Danville Police Officers. 25-year-old Nicholas Beddoo was sentenced to ten years in jail, but will only serve 14 months.
Beddoo received a sentence of five years each on charges of assault and battery on a law enforcement officer and discharging a firearm on school property. Beddoo received credit for time served and will also be on probation for two years after his release.
The shooting occurred on January 17, 2024, when officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Apollo Ave. for a report of a suspicious male, who was described as a former employee of a business located nearby on Riverside Drive who was possibly armed.
During de-escalation attempts Beddoo drew a handgun from his waistband and officers gave him commands to drop it. Beddoo fired the gun in a direction away from officers before turning and pointing it at them. Officers then discharged their weapons, striking Beddoo. Officers immediately began rendering first aid and called for EMS support.
Beddoo previously pleaded guilty to the charges in November.
