A man has been arrested after barricading himself inside of an apartment in Danville on Tuesday. According to the Danville Police Department, a man wanted on seven different criminal charges was spotted on Tuesday at 3 pm.

The suspect, 32-year-old James Edward Wells, then fled into an apartment building in the 100 block of White Street. Wells refused to vacate the apartment he entered. 

He then talked to officers from a distance before he made attempts to flee through two apartments and accessed the roof system. Multiple attempts to communicate occurred over a five-hour period.

After hours of de-escalation attempts, Wells surrendered from an attic area with no force necessary in his arrest. Wells was served with warrants for felony burglary, felony larceny of a firearm, felony possession of a firearm by a felon, misdemeanor assault and battery on family members, misdemeanor trespass, and two counts of misdemeanor destruction of property.

He was transported to the Danville City Jail.
