More power outages occurred on Wednesday night across the region. Just before 10 pm on Wednesday Danville Utilities had just over 800 customers without power, however as of 9 am on Thursday the number has increased to nearly 1,300.
According to Danville Utilities, the new outages were caused by trees falling on Whitmell School Rd and Franklin Turnpike passed Wyatt Farm Rd.
Crews are out working and additional mutual aid crews are en-route to Pittsylvania County to help accelerate the restoration time.
According to Danville Utilities, due to the cold temperatures, restoring service to customers that have been out of service for 12 or more hours is taking longer. If they restore service too quick, the potential to blow fuses and take out the line is greater. Crews have to wait for the electric load to settle and add more customers incrementally.
Mecklenburg Electric currently has nearly 5,000 customers without power as of 9 am with most of those customers being in Pittsylvania County.
