(Henry County, Va.) — The case against a Callands murder defendant is headed for trial after a Henry County grand jury determined there is enough evidence for the case to proceed.

42-year-old Curtis Callaway faces multiple charges in the February slaying of 74-year-old Juanita Dalton. She had just gotten off work from her job at a pillow factory when Dalton was abducted, raped and stabbed repeatedly. Callaway, who had blood on his boots and numerous scratches on his face and arms, faces multiple charges including two counts of capital murder.

Police believe that after stabbing the woman, he drove Dalton’s car into a wooded area and set it on fire while she was inside the vehicle.

A trial date is scheduled to be set in January.
