(Danville, VA) – After failing to renew a contract that had been in place for over 60 years with General Aviation the Danville Regional Airport Commission voted 5-1 Thursday to recommend that Danville City Council choose Lexington, North Carolina-based Fly High Lexington as the airport’s next operator.  While the City of Danville owns the airport itself, the operating entity handles flight instruction, fuel sales, and aircraft maintenance.

The contract with General Aviation comes to a conclusion on June 30th.  Officials with the city of Danville had hired Florida-based QED Inc., to help choose the next fixed-base operator at the airport.  After sending out bid requests proposals came back from Fly High and General Aviation with Averett University filing jointly.  Averett has been providing flight training through its aviation program since 1980.

Airport commission members said it came down to the business plan and marketing that Fly High offered and that’s what the airport needed.  Danville City Council will have final say in the decision soon.
