HENRY COUNTY, VA — An SUV accident near Martinsville left one woman dead and charges are pending against the driver.

Virginia State Police said 30-year-old Jessica McConnell Roanoke was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene of the accident in Henry County.

According to investigators, 42-year-old Cory Hampton was driving east on Old Sand Road near Martin Road around 9:45 Monday morning when his van ran off the left side of the road and struck a utility pole before overturning.

Hampton was injured and was taken to the hospital for treatment. He was not wearing a seat belt.

State Police believe speed was a factor in the crash.
