HENRY COUNTY, VA — After months of investigating, the Henry County Fire Marshal’s Office has been unable to determine the cause of a fire at a home that was the scene of a double homicide and a kidnapping seventeen years ago.

The house was once owned by Michael and Mary Short. Both were found shot to death on August 15, 2002. Their daughter, Jennifer, was found dead a month later in rural North Carolina.

The murders remain unsolved. Henry County Sheriff Lane Perry said the investigation remains open and active and the fire has had no impact on his department’s investigation.
