Danville, Va. — With the hottest week of summer ahead, Danville Utilities has issued a peak power alert for Tuesday through Friday between 3 until 6 each afternoon.

The alert is issued in summer months when demand for electricity is projected to be higher than usual because of the scorching temperatures.

City officials advise that usage during the peak hours can affect rates for the coming year.

Simple steps to conserve energy include unplugging appliances, switching off lights and using the dishwasher or drier outside the peak hours.
